Belgrade, Oct 17, 2008- Serbian Minister of Infrastructure Milutin Mrkonjic, Minister for the National Investment Plan Verica Kalanovic and Mayor of Belgrade Dragan Djilas signed today an agreement for completion of Prokop railway station. Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic was also present.
The overall construction works, which will be finished in a year and a half, are worth approximately €100 million.
After signing the agreement, Cvetkovic stressed that the construction of railway Corridor 10 is of the same importance as the road construction, adding that this infrastructure is necessary for drawing foreign direct investments.
He announced that the construction of road Corridor 10 will be completed during this government’s mandate, while the road construction will last slightly longer.
The Prime Minister said that it is important that Serbia’s railway infrastructure provides both greater amounts of traffic and faster speeds.
Mrkonjic announced that the railway station Prokop will be completed in a year and a half and after its completion traffic around Belgrade’s central railway station will be less congested.
Today Cvetkovic, Mrkonjic and Kalanovic also visited Vukov Spomenik railway station.
After the short drive from Prokop to Vukov Spomenik, the Minister of Infrastructure presented the Prime Minister with plans for connecting that station with Belgrade’s main railway junction.
In the gallery of the future underground station, Mrkonjic pointed to the wall behind which the tunnel already exists.
