Serbian Minister of Labour and Social Policy Rasim Ljajic said today at a meeting with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg that his ministry has met all the conditions set by the Council of Europe for the ratification of the European Social Charter.

According to a statement by the Ministry, Ljajic said that it is expected that the charter will also be ratified in the Serbian parliament by the end of this year.
Ljajic and Hammarberg discussed the most important aspects of human rights protection and social policy in Serbia. Ljajic said at the occasion that the Serbian government approved a bill on the office of the Ombudsman for Children and forwarded it to parliament, and the draft of the antidiscrimination law has been prepared as well.
Ljajic expressed gratitude to the Council of Europe for its support and successful cooperation in the area of human and social rights protection.
Hammarberg praised Serbia for results achieved in the fight against human trafficking, and said that Serbia has played an exemplary role in this respect, concludes the statement.
