Modernisation of railway Corridor 10 top priority

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mladjan Dinkic said today in Brussels that in the following years one of the key priorities will be the modernisation of railway Corridor 10.

The Ministry stated that, after the meeting with Executive Director of the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies John Ludwig, Dinkic stressed that Serbia wants to bid for significant pre-accession funds which will help the realisation of this project when it obtains EU candidate status.

We agreed with the German government that Serbian and German railways will make a plan for investment in and modernisation of this corridor, and the help of the Community of European Railways will be of great importance in this upcoming period, said Dinkic.

He said that representatives of the Community affirmed the importance of the corridor’s modernisation in order for the corridor to become an integral part of the European railway system and expressed expectation that our proposal in the EU will be supported by the Community of European Railways.

Today in Brussels, the Minister took part in the summit of the European People’s Party, the largest series of meetings in the European parliament of the right-central parties.

The leaders of European countries such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa, as well as the European Commissions Jose Manuel Barosso and European Parliament President Hans-Gert Pottering are all participating in the summit. Topics such as the global financial crisis and the situation in both Ukraine and Georgia were discussed at the summit.

Dinkic will meet tomorrow with EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn, European Commission Director-General for Enlargement Michael Leigh and European Commission Director-General for Trade David O’Sullivan, concludes the statement.
