Roundtable discussion on journalist safety

The Serbian Ministry for Human and Minority Rights organised a roundtable discussion today on journalist safety, at which introductory speeches were made by Minister of Human and Minority Rights Svetozar Ciplic, Civil Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic and Assistant Minister of Culture for media Dragan Janjic.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry for Human Rights, participants at the roundtable included president of the independent association of Serbian journalists NUNS Nadezda Gace, chief editor of the daily Blic Veselin Simonovic, deputy editor at the news agency FoNET Jasmina Dzabic, assistant producer of the news programme at Radio Television of Serbia Bojan Brkic, chief executive producer at Radio Television Vojvodina Nada Kalkan, executive producer at Vojvodina Radio Brano Pijetlovic, coordinator at Serbia’s association of independent electronic media ANEM Snezana Green, chairman of the association of journalists of Serbia UNS Nino Brajovic, chief executive producer at TV Kosava Milomir Maric, chief editor of Revija 92 Srdjan Skoro and journalist for the daily Vecernje Novosti and president of the Serbian union of journalists SNS Dragana Cabarkapa.
It was concluded at the seminar that amendments will be made to the penal law to determine particular categories of crime related to assault on journalists as well as to provide protection from threats.
Minister Ciplic pledged that amendments will be submitted to the Serbian government by the end of this year.
