State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Dusan Spasojevic invited countries in the region to refrain from recognising Kosovo-Metohija’s unilaterally declared independence at the moment when Serbia is fighting for its rights at the UN.
Spasojevic,
who is heading a Serbian delegation at a meeting of the regional initiative of Southeast Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM) in Ohrid, told the conference that the greatest threat to peace and stability in the region is the Serbian province’s unresolved status issue.
In a phone statement to the Beta news agency, he said that at the meeting he highlighted Serbia’s commitment to finding a solution to the issue of Kosovo-Metohija through talks and consensus.
Spasojevic added that, at all bilateral meetings in Ohrid, he stressed that Serbia is struggling for its rights in the UN in a constructive way by asking for the ICJ’s opinion on the legality of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija.
According to him, the Serbian Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army are the strongest and the most reliable partners in efforts to preserve stability in the region.
The ministry delegation had meetings with their counterparts from Greece, Moldova and Montenegro, and meetings with representatives of the Italian, Hungarian and Romanian defence ministries are also planned during the day.
