Sutanovac announced that before end-2008 over 80 flats will get new owners, whereas next year another 400 flats will be finished.
He said that flats will be put up in other sites throughout Serbia, adding that talks are underway with local self-government representatives interested in exchanging or buying redundant military property, included in the Master Plan – a document comprising the list of dispensable military property.
Sutanovac said he is displeased with the dragged out sale of redundant military property and added that other state organs are also competent to carry it out.
He pointed to the possibility to use subsidised housing loans for Defence Ministry and army personnel and added that a housing procurement model for the 21st century could thus be ensured.
According to him, out of around 400 members of the defence system, who applied for these loans, over 80 demands have already been approved.
He voiced belief that the trend will continue and that employees in the entire defence system will have such salaries which will enable them to pay off favourable loans.
The construction of these flats began back in 1992 and was halted on several occasions, to be finally resumed late in 2007 thanks to a decision by the Minister of Defence.
In late August Sutanovac delivered keys to another 45 flats.
