Slovakia assists Serbia with €1.8 mn in 2008

The Serbian and Slovak finance ministries signed yesterday a Financial Memorandum as part of financial management for support to the implementation of the Agreement on Development Cooperation between the two governments.
The Ministry says in a statement that the legal framework of Serbia and Slovakia's cooperation is the Agreement on Development Cooperation signed on December 3, 2007.
Specific terms and the amount of allocated funds are defied by the Financial Memorandum which is signed for each year individually, and five such documents have been signed to date.
According to the first Financial Memorandum, €1.3 million in aid was approved, €1.6 according to the second, €1.5 according to the third and around €1.3 according to the fourth.
The fifth and last Financial Memorandum for 2007 was signed on May 6 this year. According to it, around €1.9 million was set aside for projects submitted in 2007.
For 2008, Slovakia set aside around €1.8 million from the budget intended for financial development assistance to Serbia.
In line with Slovakia's mid-term strategy of official development assistance for 2003–2008, priority sectors in Serbia were determined and these are Serbia's integration in international organisations, support to the civil society and regional development, as well as SME development and infrastructure reconstruction, recalls the statement.
