Lloveras pointed out that the EU approved funds worth €168 million from Instrument of Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) programme for 2008, €4 million of which is intended for secondary vocational education, while €1 million will be used for tourism development, which will secure a continuous help in these fields.
He recalled that until now the EU has invested more than €20 million in Serbia in the framework of a programme to reform secondary vocational education, of which half is intended for equipping secondary schools and the rest for teacher training.
Obradovic said that such projects are very important for Serbia and the aforementioned programme includes 150 of a total of 520 secondary schools in Serbia.
Developing secondary level vocational education is very important for Serbia in order to meet the demands of the market, said the Minister, adding that Serbia has EU support in expert and technical aspects of the work.
He said that there are several education projects in Serbia and expressed conviction that these projects will be approved by the EU.
The secondary tourism school in New Belgrade is one of the many vocational schools in Serbia where the courses being taught were developed in the framework of the reform programme for secondary vocational education.
Within two years, under the project, the school got computer and other equipment worth nearly €60,000, while 75% of the teachers were trained to teach according to modern teaching methods, and partnership was established with schools in EU countries.
