The agreement was signed by Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic, Romanian Interior Minister Cristian David and Bulgarian Interior Minister Mihail Mikov.
Dacic said at the occasion that the agreement will make it possible to raise the level of police work in signatory countries to a significantly higher level, and specified that the agreement envisages cooperation in the areas of controlling drug trafficking, money counterfeiting, illegal immigration and financial crime, primarily in the commerce of excise and technical goods.
According to Dacic, all three countries face the same security risks and it is necessary to coordinate police work.
The agreement we have a signed is a state level response to particular criminal threats which are present, said Dacic and added that according to the agreement a joint committee will be formed for its implementation.
Romanian Interior Minister Cristian David said that the agreement will improve police cooperation between the three countries and is also a response to terrorism.
He said that the document will improve cooperation, whose goal is to create an area of stability and development on the territory of the three countries.
The Romanian Interior Minister assessed positively a proposal for setting up a regional centre for emergency situations – floods and fires.
Bulgarian Interior Minister Mihail Mikov said that the agreement will provide a better framework for police cooperation between the three countries thus strengthening law enforcing efforts in the Balkans.
He stressed that the agreement will enable better communication between police forces and greater possibilities for cooperation.
The Serbian, Romanian and Bulgarian interior ministers agreed to organise joint counter-terrorism exercises, which will be held near the hydroelectric power station Djerdap in Serbia.
Dacic, David and Mikov agreed that it is necessary to establish a regional centre for emergency situations.
