Minister for the National Investment Plan (NIP) Verica Kalanovic said today that the German Development Bank (KfW) will provide €18 million in donation and a loan worth €25 million for improvement of the water supply system in Serbia.
In a statement to the Beta news agency,
after a meeting with KfW representatives in Frankfurt, Kalanovic said that the project for solving water supply and waste water problems in 14 municipalities and 4 towns in Serbia will be financed with these funds.
She recalled that eight municipalities participated in the first phase of the project for which the KfW provided a donation worth €10 million.
According to Kalanovic, a large number of municipalities in Serbia have water supply problems and the Ministry is determined to help them.
She added that the second phase of the project is to be completed before 2011, when the NIP will start contributing to financing in order to conclude the programme by purifying waste water and solving the water supply problems permanently.
She pointed to the fact that the project also includes efficiency increase, replacement of old equipment, education of local companies dealing with water supply and raising public awareness regarding water.
