In a statement to BBC, Jeremic said that it is all about principles, since Serbia’s resolution does not contain any political qualification of the unilateral declaration of Kosovo-Metohija’s independence.
Asked what he expects from the voting on the Serbia’s initiative while the Western countries that supported Kosovo’s independence vote against it, the Minister said that he hopes that they will note oppose one country’s right to ask a question.
He expressed doubt that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) will accept the unilateral declaration of Kosovo’s independence as legal.
Honestly, I can barely imagine that the ICJ make such a ruling, because we approached this issue in a very sensitive way and we would probably not get into all this if we did not have such expectations, said Jeremic.
According to the Minister, the ICJ rulings are not obligatory, thus it depends on the governments to accept them or not. They bear great moral responsibility and the Serbian government will take that into consideration while deciding on how to react on the final court’s decision.
