Svetozar Ciplic
The statement adds that they discussed drafting laws on national councils, problems the minorities are faced with in the education and information sectors and the councils’ plans and projects.
At the meeting with the Rusyn delegation, Ciplic discussed the 10th World Congress of Rusyns scheduled for next year, to which Serbia will be host country.
On September 16 Ciplic met with Chief of the UNHCR Mission to Serbia Lenart Kotsalainen, who also chairs the UN working group for Roma programmes, as well as with head of the Refuge Legal Protection Department Robert Young.
They looked at the UN Week, to be observed from October 20–24, whose chief idea is the social inclusion of the Roma. Kotsalainen proposed that he and Minister Ciplic together open the UN Week in Novi Sad on October 20.
The UNHCR is carrying out the campaign to register the Roma population in a number of municipalities in order to facilitate everyday life for them, help them get personal IDs more easily and have better access to state institutions, and the UNHCR offered its expert and logistics support to the Ministry’s projects.
They also discussed a regional approach in the process of implementing action plans during the Roma Decade, which would imply neighbouring countries, signatories of the Roma Decade – Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia together with their UNHCR offices – reaching an agreement on various projects on Roma inclusion, adds the statement.
