Dragin said it is important to strengthen capacities in this area and harmonise domestic legislature with EU standards in order to ensure better life in villages and speed up Serbia’s EU integration process.
The aim of these reforms is to help the Serbian farmer so that he can live by his work, and the right way to do that is to implement systemic solutions which include production, processing and positioning of goods, said the Minister.
He thanked European Commission representatives for their assistance and support which will help the Serbian agriculture to become part of the European agriculture policy.
European Commission representatives stressed that agriculture is one of the toughest chapters in negotiations on EU accession which await Serbia in the near future.
They also said they are pleased with efforts and results of reforms implemented in Serbia in areas which will be of concern at today’s meeting.
The two-day meeting will look at the analysis of Serbia’s progress in the harmonisation of legislature in agriculture and rural development, fishery, food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary issues, as well as the construction of administrative and institutional capacities for the implementation of laws within relevant institutions.
During the meeting, plans for the implementation of Serbia’s national EU integration in agriculture plan will also be presented.
