The building of the government of the Republic of Serbia, 11 Nemanjina Street, was open to visitors today, as part of events being held to mark European Heritage Days. The building will also be open to public on September 14 from 2 pm.
People had the opportunity today, for the third year in a row, to visit the premises of the Serbian government. They were guided in their tour by assistant to the Secretary General of the Serbian government Zorica Nikodijevic and architectural historian Gordana Gordic.
Visitors were able to see areas on each of the five floors in the building, visited the Yellow Saloon intended for private talks with functionaries and were served drinks at the end of the tour.
The building which houses part of the Serbian government was built during the period from 1926 to 1928, and was designed by Russian architect Nikolay Krasov. It was originally intended to house the Finance Ministry.
Severe damage was done to the building during the 1999 NATO air attacks, and restoration lasted for almost one year.
