Jeremic, who was on a brief visit to Stockholm today said that Belgrade has reacted with a great deal of restraint to Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence and has chosen to struggle to safeguard its sovereignty by diplomatic and legal means, rather than sanctions and other similar measures.
He recalled that one of the Serbian government’s main priorities is to achieve candidate status, if possible before Sweden takes over the EU presidency in July 2009.
The Minister said that Serbia is cooperating fully with the ICTY, adding that he expects that Chief Hague Prosecutor Serge Brammertz, who is due to arrive in Belgrade tomorrow, will make a positive report.
