The Serbian phytosanitary inspection service of the Inspectorate General of Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management made a decision today to ban the import of cut flowers and flowering plants from Holland due to the presence of harmful organisms.
Agromyzidae
According to the statement issued by the Agriculture Ministry, the decision was made on August 26, when a shipment of flowers was returned on the basis of an examination of samples which revealed the presence of harmful organisms.
The shipment was reported to the phytosanitary inspection service at the Horgos border crossing.
An examination of the samples at the Faculty of Agriculture in Belgrade confirmed the presence of Liriomyza huidobrensis, or the pea leafminer, capable of inflicting severe damage to crops.
