Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus, Pancevo Mayor Borislava Kruska, and other top municipal officials met today to discuss the environmental situation in the town and they agreed on concrete measures to resolve it.

According to a statement form Labus’ office, the measures include:
- The setting up of an environmental headquarters made up of representatives from the Pancevo municipality, the southern industrial zone (petrochemical plant Petrohemija, fertilizer plant Azotara, the state oil company’s oil refinery Rafinerija Nafte), and the Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection;
- Continuous information exchange between relevant municipal and state bodies;
- Installation of devices for measuring the emission of pollutants in the factories;
- Providing citizens with timely and accurate information on harmful emissions;
- Taking legal action against those responsible for excessive emissions of pollutants;
- Publishing the investment plans of all three factories, with details on funds earmarked for reducing the emission of pollutants in the next 12 months;
The Serbian government will resolutely implement short- and long-term measures to resolve the problems in the southern industrial zone as well as the environmental problems in the municipality of Pancevo that have been neglected for decades, reads the statement.
