In a statement issued with the aim of giving correct information to the public, the Ministry of Justice lays out the procedure of responding to requests for extradition, or for taking over criminal prosecution.
When this ministry receives a request for extradition, it forwards it to the district court in charge, which establishes whether the conditions for extradition have been met.
In case that the relevant organs of a foreign state send a request for ceding criminal prosecution to the judiciary organs of the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Justice forwards the request to the public prosecutor in charge, who decides whether to take over the criminal prosecution.
The Serbian Ministry of Justice believes that it is very important that this case should be terminated as soon as possible.
