Serbian Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Milan Markovic today put two digital telephone exchanges into service, integrated with radio communication into the telecommunication system of Serbia, in the villages Ugljare and Kuzmin in Kosovo-Metohija.
These villages in central Kosovo-Metohija have not had telephone lines since 2004, when the telephone exchange in Kosovo Polje was destroyed by fire. The two digital telephone exchanges have a total of 800 numbers.
Markovic said that the two telephone exchanges are made exclusively of domestic equipment of the highest quality, and that telephone lines will help citizens from this area connect better with surrounding areas and will in a small way improve the difficult conditions they live in.
Assistant Minister of Telecommunications Slobodan Laketa said that the aim of the Serbian Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society is that every household in the territory of Serbia gets a telephone line.
