A delegation of the Serbian Ministry of Justice and the Directorate for Execution of Penalties, lead by directorate head Milos Jankovic, visted prisons in Kosovo-Metohija yesterday.
The visit is part of an intensive control of the state of human rights of prisoners and the living conditions in Serbian prisons.
The delegation visited a jail in Kosovska Mitrovica and concluded that conditions in this prison are very similar to those in other detention sites in Serbia.
In Kosovska Mitrovica, Jankovic spoke with UNMIK judiciary head Ana Miriam Rocatelo and director for Kosovo prisons William Irwin about the possibility of transferring Serb nationals from the prisons in Kosovo-Metohija to other detention centres in Serbia.
There are currently 11 non-Albanians with Serbian citizenship in Kosovo jails who are expected to choose whether they want to be transferred to other prisons in Serbia.
