Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic stated tonight that Serbia’s prospects to prevent Kosovo’s admission to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank are growing.
Djelic told Fox television that Serbia will intensify cooperation with countries that did not recognise the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo so that the IMF Board of Executive Directors would not grant admission to Kosovo.
Serbia is intensively negotiating with countries that did not recognise the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo and that wish to respect the integrity of all states in the world, including Serbia, said Djelic.
I think that our prospects are growing, Djelic concluded and repeated that there is a hard battle ahead of Serbia in order to prevent Kosovo’s accession to the IMF.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that in talks with IMF Director General Dominique Strauss-Khan during last week’s
participation in the spring meeting of the IMF and the World Bank in Washington, he received assurances that there are no activities in progress related to admitting Kosovo to the IMF.
Djelic said that the largest number of countries recognising the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo-Metohija were from the continents of America and Europe, whereas one country each from Africa and Latin America, and four from Asia did so.
