The Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confuted a report by the Associated Press from a press conference of Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic in Jakarta, that the proposal on cooperation which the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija submitted to the UN Mission in Kosovo is actually an initiative for the partition of the province.
A statement by the Ministry reads that at today’s final press conference in Jakarta, Jeremic said that Serbia wants to cooperate with UNMIK, whose presence is prescribed by Resolution 1244.
He explained that the proposal of the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija is an attempt to find a transitional solution for cooperation with UNMIK in newly-emerged, difficult circumstances caused by illegal declaration of independence by interim institutions in Pristina.
According to him, Serbia does not want to divide Kosovo-Metohija and remains committed to preserving sovereignty and territorial integrity of its entire territory.
Jeremic said that Serbia wants to find a way to cooperate in order to reduce tensions in Kosovo and avert conflicts, such as ones which we witnessed in the previous weeks.
The Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs demands from domestic and foreign media to report the statement of Minister Jeremic from Jakarta authentically and in its original form, it is added in the statement.
