The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Jeremic sent a letter pointing out the possible consequences that this illegal act could have and noting that the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo-Metohija is a serious violation of international law, the Constitution of Serbia, UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Helsinki Final Act.
The Minister invited representatives of international organisations not to accept membership requests from Pristina’s illegal authorities as by doing so they would violate the respect for the Republic of Serbia as an independent state and UN member.
The Minister sent a letter to Director General of the World Health Organisation Margaret Chan, Director General of the International Labour Organisation Juan Somavia, Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation Kandeh Yumkella, Director General of the International Organisation for Migration Brunson Mckinley and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Commission Mohammad ElBaraedi.
The letter was also sent to Director of the International Monetary Fund Dominique Strauss-Kahn, President of the World Bank Robert B. Zoellick, Director General of the World Trade Organisation Pascal Lamy, President of the Universal Postal Union Eduardo Dayan, Chief Executive of the International Union of Railways Aliadiere Luc, Secretary General of the World Customs Organisations Michelle Dannet, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Jean Lemierre, as well as several others, reads the statement.
