Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic said today at the regular meeting with ambassadors of EU countries that Serbia is ready to sign the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) as soon as possible, and begin the dialogue on complete visa liberalisation directly after that.
According to a statement issued following the meeting, Djelic will invite Vice President of the European Commission Franco Frattini to visit Serbia in the upcoming period to observe the progress made in fulfillment of standards for Serbia’s inclusion in the White Schengen List.
Serbia’s priority is indeed to acquire candidate status by the end of 2008 and to begin talks on full fledged EU membership in the spring of 2009, said Djelic. He added that signing the SAA will improve the standard of living and bring Serbia economic progress.
In talks with the ambassadors, Djelic welcomed the formation of a working group of the European Commission which will provide support to Serbia in the process of EU integration, concludes the statement.
