Djelic stressed that the largest number of Serbian exporters comes from these industries and added that their export was worth $1.2 billion during the first ten months in 2007, which is an increase of 33.9% against the same period in 2006.
Participants of the meeting agreed that the chemical industry has the largest export potential, and paid special attention to the problem of industrial gas supply.
Djelic said that the government is doing everything in its power to secure adequate energy supply for all industrial needs during the upcoming period, and it was concluded at the meeting that the new tariff system will provide a clear picture regarding prices of gas.
Exporters said that there are problems regarding the time consuming procedure for obtaining licenses from the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and a representative of this ministry said that electronic issuing of licenses will be introduced which will reduce the time required from four to six weeks to a few days.
It was said at the meeting that there is also a problem in transport infrastructure, which increases business expenses, mainly regarding the railway.
The Serbian government is paying special attention to strengthening economic diplomacy in order to protect the interests of domestic economy in the European market and it is planned that free trade agreements will be signed with the Ukraine, Belarus and Turkey, and the list of products in the free trade regime with Russia will be expanded.
Willingness was expressed to offer full support to exporters for membership in suitable international organisations and associations and it was concluded that inspection services in the Health Ministry must be strengthened, so that full implementation of standards in the pharmaceutical industry might be carried out.
It is planned that the recycling law will be adopted in the first half of 2008, and it is expected to contribute to the further development of these industries, said Djelic and announced that by the end of February next year Serbia’s export strategy will be drafted.
He called upon all sides to actively engage in this project and added that the next step is designing an action plan, which will serve as the basis for allocation of budgetary funds for increasing exports in 2009.
