Serbian Assistant Minister of Defence Dusan Spasojevic said today in Washington that for the stability and safety of the region it is necessary that solution for the future status of Kosovo-Metohija be brought in line with international law and through agreement of both sides.
At the
bilateral defence consultations between Serbia and the US, Spasojevic said that priorities in further improvement of cooperation with the US in the field of defence are defined in the Programme of state partnership between Serbia and the National Guard of Ohio.
He also pointed to the importance of cooperation between Serbia and the US through international programme of military education which enables Serbian army members to get trained at the US military academies.
The military consultations, which are also attended by representatives of Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina, were opened yesterday by US Deputy Secretary of Defence Gordon England.
England said that the American side wants to maintain and improve cooperation in the field of defence by building partnership relations in order to improve regional stability and trust.
He underlined that these are the first bilateral defence consultations which have historical importance and open perspectives for improvement of bilateral and regional cooperation.
