At the observation of the 15th anniversary of the European Movement in Serbia, Djelic said that the implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) is Serbia’s visa for the next step, and that is candidate status which it may get on December 15 next year.
He announced that by end-January 2008, Serbia will sign the SAA with the EU and by the end of the year enter the white Schengen list.
According to Djelic, the condition for signing the SAA is still full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, which Serbia’s state organs are working on.
Agreements on visa relaxations and readmission are very important for Serbia’s EU accession process and their implementation will begin on January 1, 2008, said Djelic and specified that the implementation will imply a simplified procedure for getting visas for a number of citizens’ categories.
Djelic voiced expectation that in the next 13 months Serbia will make greater progress than any other country in transition and added that it is the government’s responsibility to achieve that.
To be for Serbia means to be for the EU and that’s more true now than ever before, stressed Djelic and voiced hope that within three years Serbia will get EU’s assistance of €600 million to €800 million.
