The media house B92 received the main award for contribution at the national level to social campaigns such as the Women’s Safe House, which is directed to the fight against violence in the family, and the promotion of voluntary blood donation.
The award for contribution to the local community where a company conducts its business went to the company Holcim from Popovac. This company supported young talents and employees in the municipality of Paracin through programmes for providing scholarships, training and international exchange.
The award for small and medium-sized enterprises was given to the company Alfa-Plast from Temerin. This firm invests money at the local level into the development of health institutions, nonprofit organisations and local events.
Erste Banka from Novi Sad received the award for supporting the most innovative project of the year which was the project Avantura Cooltura. The aim of this project was to hold cultural and sports events in Belgrade for school children in elementary schools.
The award for long term partnership between the business and the nonprofit sectors was presented to the company Hemofarm from Vrsac, and a special award for media contribution was given to the media house B92.
The Virtus award is intended for companies which in 2007 supported nonprofit actions or organisations working in public interest in an efficient and effective manner.
Djelic voiced hope that this initiative will become an institution in the years to come and the state and government will play an important role in it.
According to Djelic, Serbia has a law on associations and national funds but it is outdated and due to that the Serbian Ministry of Culture has begun drafting a new law, which should be finished by the end of spring next year.
As a form of stimulus, there is significant tax relief in Serbia which reduces company income by 1.5% on the tax base for companies which engage in humanitarian work.
