Djelic stressed that pressure and threats aimed against the independence of these bodies are unacceptable and harmful for Serbian citizens and announced amendments to the Law on the protection of competition which will extend the competencies of the Committee for the Protection of Competition.
The meeting emphasised the interest in the formation of a more transparent legal framework referring to the distribution of budgetary funds and privatisation. In this respect it is particularly important to adjust the Law on privatisation in order to forbid access to the privatisation process for off-shore companies whose actual owners are unknown.
It is therefore necessary to look up to positive examples set up by the National Bank of Serbia regarding the privatisation of the banking sector.
The collocutors also initiated cooperation between the Deputy Prime Minister’s cabinet, the council and the justice ministry with the aim of creating more efficient institutional system in the council, and agreed that the first step in that direction should be the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister at the council’s next session.
