Serbian Minister of Youth and Sports Snezana Samardzic-Markovic, State Secretary of Youth and Sports Vlajko Senic and representatives of the Athletic Association of Serbia met today with a delegation of the European Athletic Association (EAA).
According to the Ministry’s statement, they discussed the organisation of the 2009 European Athletics Junior Championship that will take place in Novi Sad and stressed the importance of this event for Novi Sad and Serbia.
Samardzic-Markovic thanked the EAA and pointed out that the Ministry of Youth and Sports fully supports the championship and will provide all the necessary administrative and financial assistance.
She stressed that there is good cooperation between the Serbian government, the province and the City of Novi Sad regarding coordination and joint financing of the championship, as well as infrastructure investments.
The meeting also looked at the reconstruction of the Karadjordje stadium where the championship will be held and the construction of a closed hall next to the stadium.
The Minister stressed that the project for the closed hall has been added to the Ministry’s proposal for the National Investment Plan.
Representatives of the Ministry and the Athletic Association of Serbia notified the EAA delegation on the formation of the Organisational Committee whose head will be Snezana Samardzic-Markovic.
They announced that a new meeting will soon be held to appoint the executive committee and adopt the budget, adds the statement.
