At a roundtable held on leasing services in Serbia and possible improvements, Ilic said that leasing companies have a number of objections regarding business conditions and the Finance Ministry has received demands for amendments to the law on financial leasing.
According to Ilic, leasing companies are demanding that their business activities be redefined and expanded to areas other than just financial leasing, and be given permission to deal in real estate leasing. They also demand amendments to tax laws and such amendments will be adopted by the end of the first trimester of 2008, said Ilic.
Vice chairman of the managing board of the
Association of Leasing Companies in Serbia Bojan Basa said 17 companies deal in leasing in Serbia and they did business worth €400 million in 2006.
He expressed expectation that this figure will grow by 20% this year, and added that these companies which employ more than 400 people mainly deal in financial leasing.
According to Basa, 90% of clients of these companies in Serbia are legal entities, large companies and small and medium-sized enterprises while only 10% are financing of physical persons.
He said that leasing companies have had several technical problems since 2006, since the National Bank of Serbia began controlling this area.
He said that leasing companies want to be consulted when certain decisions connected to their activities are being taken, since it is in the interest of the country’s economy to develop leasing.
