Serbian Minister of Telecommunications and Information Society Aleksandra Smiljanic signed today the eSEE Agenda Plus, on behalf of the Serbian government, at the South Eastern European (SEE) Ministerial Conference on Information Society, being held in Sarajevo.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society, the eSEE Agenda Plus is a regional action plan for building an information society in South East European countries for the period from 2007 to 2012, and is the result of joint efforts by the countries of the region to harmonise legislation in the area of electronic administration with EU regulations.
The ministerial conference arises from joint efforts of the eSEEurope Initiative and its working groups for integration of SEE countries into a global knowledge-based economy by regionally supporting the development of an Information Society.
This initiative was launched within the framework of the activities of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe. It is a strategic effort of countries in the region to jointly use information and communications technologies as means to improving economic growth, raising employment, EU integration and achieving long term regional stability.
At the end of the ministerial conference a ministerial declaration will be adopted, while on October 31 the Third Information Society Conference will also be held in Sarajevo regarding e-government and public administration reform, concludes the statement.
