Following the information of the Security and Intelligence Agency (BIA) that a large amount of heroin was to be transported to Spain through Serbia on July 22, the members of the BIA and the criminal police carried out a joint operation of cutting off that smuggling chain. The police arrested four members of the criminal group and confiscated 66 kilograms of heroin, worth €2 million.

The BIA kept the criminal group on close watch for a longer period of time. The group smuggled heroin from Turkey through Serbia and Hungary to the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and other countries of the European Union (EU). The leaders of the group were Djuro Dragovic, Goran Kremenovic, Darko Mitrovic and Nada Misic from Novi Sad.
One of the organisers of the group, Djuro Dragovic, attempted to escape but was arrested.
The largest portion of the heroin was transported to the countries of the EU, and one part was sold on the drugs market in Serbia.
