The talks focused on situation in Kosovo-Metohija. Kostunica stressed that the Serbs and other non-Albanians lack personal security and therefore they need institutional guarantees, envisaged by the Serbian government's Plan for the resolution of the situation in Kosovo-Metohija.
Scheffer said that Serb population in the province must be protected and that the international community must find a just solution to the crisis, which can rely on the government's plan.
The NATO Secretary General condemned ethnically motivated violence in the province, adding that the NATO and KFOR are monitoring the political process in Kosovo-Metohija.
The NATO and the international community insist on the principle of multiethnicity in Kosovo, stressed Scheffer, who showed special interest in the government's Plan for Kosovo-Metohija.
Kostunica said that the Plan does not envisage ethic division, but aims to protect Serbs and other non-Albanians through territorial autonomy, stressing that their basic human rights are violated.
The two officials also discussed ways of cooperation with the Hague tribunal, which must include both the fulfillment of international obligations and perseverance of stability in the country.
The collocutors agreed that the state union has achieved progress in getting closer to the Partnership for Peace, and that the stability of the Balkans is in the interest of the whole region.
