Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic said last night that EU membership for countries of the West Balkans will guarantee that there will never again be a war in this part of Europe.
Speaking at a discussion on the European future of Serbia, Djelic said that European integration means lasting peace in the Balkans, and expressed conviction that Serbia will become a member of the EU by 2014.
He said that countries of the West Balkans will be accepted into the EU together, so that costs of the process are reduced, and added that Europe will be complete when it accepts the West Balkans.
Djelic pointed to the fact that
signing the agreement on visa relaxations with the European Commission is the first step towards being included in the White Schengen List, which means abolishing visa restrictions completely.
He said that the Serbian government will organise a competition in the framework of which young people will be acquainted with the work of the ministries, and later they will be sent to EU countries for six months or one year to work. They will then return to help in domestic administration in the process of European integration.
The discussion on Serbia’s European future was organised in the framework of the first summer school ASSEI at the Faculty of Law in Belgrade.
