Bozidar Djelic
Speaking to residents of Osojane, which is a village inhabited by those who returned to Kosovo-Metohija and where the first return of Serbs was organised in 2001, Djelic said that Serbia is defending and will continue to defend its territorial integrity.
We are convinced that this is not just in the interest of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija or Serbia, but in the interest of the entire region, said Djelic.
He said that there is a realistic danger that Kosovo Albanians will unilaterally declare independence for the province, but the Serbian government will intensify its activities in the weeks ahead to prevent this.
He recalled that the Serbian government allocated RSD 2.2 billion from the budget for infrastructure projects in Kosovo-Metohija during this year and the next.
According to Djelic, concrete programmes are planned which will allow people in Kosovo-Metohija to live off their work, and this will in turn prevent people from leaving their homes.
Djelic, together with representatives of company SBB, delivered a donation of one-year free internet subscriptions to the youth centre in the village of Osojane and computer equipment to the local health centre, youth centre, elementary school and the community centre office.
The donation will help the residents of Osojane get out of the media and information blockade which they were facing for years.
After speaking with youth and children in the youth centre, the Deputy Prime Minister visited the household of Predrag Zakic who has six children and spoke with them for a while.
Djelic also met with representatives of the Osojane valley – Tucep, Saljinovica and Suvi Lukavac, as well as coordinator for the municipality of Istok Rados Vuljic. The meeting focused on concrete projects, including the acquisition of aggregate, recovery of the Osojane cooperative and promotion of youth employment so that they would not move out.
Djelic also met with head of the British Office in Kosovo-Metohija David Blunt and reiterated the position of the Serbian government that the UK and the EU should support negotiations on Kosovo-Metohija’s status without prejudicing the outcome.
Blunt said that the UK and international community will invest efforts for Serbs return and remain in Kosovo-Metohija and added that in that sense he expects suggestions from the Serbian side.
