The delegation included Slovenian EU Commissioner Janez Potocnik, former Belgian Prime Minister Jean-Luc Dehaene, president of the US project on transitional democracies Bruce Jackson, former prime minister and minister of foreign affairs of Bosnia-Herzegovina Zlatko Lagumdzija, former Albanian prime minister Ilir Meta and governor from the Great Britain Dame Pauline Neville Jones.
Kostunica said that all organs of the state union of Serbia-Montenegro have been established, which enables proper functioning of the state union and opens the way to the European integration.
Speaking about the difficult position of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, Kostunica said it is necessary to protect Serb population and give them institutional guarantees through decentralisation and autonomy, proposed by the Serbian government's Plan for the resolution of the problem in Kosovo-Metohija.
Amato said that the International Commission on the Balkans is considering ways in which the European Union could be more engaged in Kosovo-Metohija in the future.
It was agreed that the priority is to tackle the issue of security and protection of Serbs and other non-Albanians in the province. Other problems that have to be considered are high unemployment rate and poor economy in the province.
The collocutors agreed that it is very important that the Serbian government has given a concrete proposal of the decentralisation of the province, which is a good starting point. They also agreed that other models of decentralisation should be considered as well.
