The Serbian government examined at its session today the question of elections to be held in the province of Kosovo-Metohija, which were announced by organs of the Kosovo interim institutions.
The Serbian government considers that even eight and a half years since the UN mission arrived in Kosovo-Metohija elementary conditions for a safe and free life for Serbs and non-Albanians in the province have not been created.
It is especially discouraging that two thirds of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija are still living as internally displaced persons, unable to return to their homes due to fear of persecution.
Following detailed talks with Serbian President Boris Tadic, who absolutely shares the same position as the Serbian government, it was decided at today’s session of the Serbian government that Serbs living in Kosovo-Metohija should be advised not to participate in the upcoming provincial elections.
The Serbian government and the Serbian President will continue consultations on the question of local elections which were announced by Kosovo interim institutions.
