Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and Minister of Religion Milan Radulovic met today with church dignitaries - Catholic Bishop of Zrenjanin Laslo Huzvar, Catholic Bishop of Subotica Janos Penzes, Bishop of the Christian Reformed Church Istvan Ceta Semesi and Superintendent of the Christian Evangelical Church Arpad Dolinski. Kostunica condemned all incidents with religious and ethnic background, and pointed out that religious communities play an important role in the prevention of incidents and development of understanding and tolerance.
The Prime Minister and the church dignitaries agreed that the state and religious communities must work together on developing tolerance and mutual understanding in order to avert incidents and keep good interethnic and interreligious relations.
It was also agreed that it is very important to join forces to make young Serbs, Hungarians and members of all other ethnic communities remain in Vojvodina, because that province should be a model of harmony between different ethnic and religious communities.
The church dignitaries highlighted the importance of mutual understanding between religious communities and said that they have very good cooperation with the Serbian Orthodox Church.
They agreed that the introduction of religious teaching to schools will enable young people to better understand their own and other religions, and will at the same time improve interreligious relations.
