The Council for Children's Rights held its inaugural session today in a new composition. The session was chaired by Council President and Serbian Minister of Labour and Social Policy Rasim Ljajic.
The Council consists of representatives of the Serbian government, professional public and non-governmental organisations that deal with children's rights. State Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy Ljiljana Lucic was unanimously elected deputy president of the Council.
The Council will deal with improvement of rights and the position of children in Serbia and propose measures for making a comprehensive government policy for children and the young.
The Council concluded that it is necessary to adopt as soon as possible a law on children's ombudsman and thus create one more mechanism for protection and improvement of children's rights in Serbia.
