According to a statement by the Health Ministry, Karanovic later talked about the function of densitometer diagnostics since 1991, and said that osteoporosis is a disease which causes loss of bone mineral density and reduced bone mass, leading to weak bones and fractures.
The new densitometer at the Niska Banja Institute is the most modern instrument for measuring bone density and belongs to the latest generation which quickly and precisely establishes the bone mass in the spine and pelvic area.
The Health Ministry purchased three densitometers for the Niska Banja Institute, Kragujevac Clinical Centre and Serbian Clinical Centre.
The acquisition of this equipment is a major step from a medical as well as socio-economic point of view, and Serbia has thus adopted a modern method in diagnostics and treatment of osteoporosis, reads the statement.
