Ministry of Youth and Sports condemns attack at “Procession of Differences” in Novi Sad

The Serbian Ministry of Youth and Sports stated today that it most harshly condemns the attack at activists of the campaign themed “Everyone Different – Everyone Equal”, being held as part of the Exit festival in Novi Sad.
The statement adds that the largest music festival in Serbia should be a festival of joy and friendship, a fusion of differences from which we may learn something, and not an opportunity for violence.
The campaign was initiated by the Council of Europe and is being held simultaneously in 42 European countries. The goal is to promote European values, human rights, encourage understanding and tolerance and also encourage the young to take an active part in building the society and making decisions at various levels, therefore it is not easy to understand the reasons behind this attack.
Yesterday’s attack shows that all state institutions and NGOs must engage more in promoting fundamental values, adds the statement.
