Djelic,
who is on a one-day visit to Montenegro today, gave an interview for yesterday’s edition of the Dan daily and said that though the two countries have parted ways, it does not necessarily mean they should maintain a distance between them, and added that the Serbian government adopted amendments to the Law on Serbian citizenship which have been forwarded to Serbian parliament for emergency adoption.
According to Djelic, Montenegrin citizens living in Serbia will be able to obtain Serbian citizenship through a simplified procedure.
He announced he will tell Podgorica officials that Montenegro is a priority for Serbia and the Serbian government wants to cooperate with their colleagues in Podgorica and do all it can to resolve this joint issue.
We will talk about prolonging the provisional agreement on social security, signed last December, specified the Deputy Prime Minister and announced there will be talks on education, health, right to work and EU integrations.
He reiterated the Serbian government’s stance that all Montenegrin students who wish to study in Serbia may do so under favourable circumstances, just like students from other former Yugoslav republics.
As for economic issues, Djelic said that Montenegro is an important market for Serbian manufacturers and vice versa. He added he will discuss investments into the Bar harbour with Montenegrin officials.
Bearing in mind that Serbia and Montenegro will in a few months sign the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, we will discuss the draft agreement, stressed Djelic and added that Serbia and Montenegro will harmonise their negotiating positions whenever it is in their interests.
