At a joint press conference following the meeting, Jeremic said that such a conference would be useful but added that it would not be a place for negotiations.
The Minister stressed that all conflicts with territorial and state dimensions should be resolved within the UN Security Council and emphasised that the Security Council is the only legitimate forum at which such decisions can be made.
Every resort to unilateral solutions would be perilous for the region and the world, warned Jeremic and said it would pose a dangerous international precedent since there are a number of frozen conflicts throughout the world.
He reiterated that Serbia will never accept independence of Kosovo-Metohija, not now, not in the future and not under any circumstances.
Jeremic voiced hope that today’s meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President George Bush will help solve the issue of Kosovo-Metohija by agreeing to continue the talks.
Jacenjuk said that the idea to organise an international conference in Kiev at which frozen conflicts in the world would be discussed was put forward at the recently held summit of the
Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) in Istanbul.
Ukraine, as a direct participant in the resolution of the Pridnestrovie frozen conflict, has forwarded the proposal to other countries inviting them to a conference in Kiev which would look at all frozen conflicts, explained Jacenjuk.
He said that the BSEC has huge economic importance and could contribute to the resolution of frozen conflicts.
Jeremic and Jacenjuk said they are pleased with their countries’ satisfactory relations and announced that ten agreements on cooperation between Serbian and Ukraine will be signed in the course of 2007.
