In the afternoon session of the
1000th meeting of Council of Europe’s (CoE) ambassadors, Djelic said that Serbia remains dedicated to European values.
Addressing the ambassadors of 47 CoE member states, he underlined that Serbia will not be a threat to the region, on the contrary.
He said that Serbia is committed to full cooperation with the Hague tribunal, not only in order to conclude the EU Stabilisation and Association Agreement, but also to enable reconciliation in the region.
According to him, the recent arrests of Hague indictees Zdravko Tolimir and Vlastimir Djordjevic, in cooperation with authorities of Republika Srpska and Montenegro, showed that the issue of cooperation with the Hague tribunal is not only Serbian, but also regional.
At the same time, Djelic pointed out that respect for human rights of minorities is at a high level in Serbia and said that after 17 years, representatives of Albanians from southern Serbia are Serbian parliament members, as well as representatives of minority parties, such as Roma, Hungarians and Slovaks.
Ethnically motivated crimes are isolated cases in Serbia, he said and added that Serbia will not tolerate intolerance.
He also underlined the importance of economic cooperation in the region and favourable economic flows and announced that CEFTA agreement will be initialled in Serbian parliament in September at the latest.
Referring to the slogan of Serbia's chairmanship of the CoE Committee of Ministers "One Europe - Our Europe", Djelic said that Europe is still not united because the countries are at different levels of EU integration.
According to him, the process of cooperation in southeastern Europe could turn the Balkans into the most dynamic region in Europe.
Southeastern Europe has recorded the largest economic growth lately which means that it has made significant progress.
He said that foreign investments in the region are not dropping but increasing and pointed to the importance of regional investments, adding that economy in the Balkans is more advanced that politics.
Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister Todor Curov said that one of the priorities of Bulgaria, as the chair country of the Process of cooperation in southeastern Europe, is consolidation of stability in the region and its integration into EU and NATO.
