In an interview for B92 TV, Djelic said that besides arresting and handing over Ratko Mladic it is necessary to adopt some 20,000 regulations which will help harmonise the domestic legislative system with the EU.
According to Djelic, Serbia could get €129 million in help from the EU this year, and that could increase to an annual sum of €1 billion by 2011.
These are enormous sums since the entire budget of Serbia is some € 6 billion, said the Deputy Prime Minister, and added that that money could be used in agriculture, science, education, social benefits, for the youth and improvement of infrastructure.
He said that the government will examine the proposal for the new budget next week and expressed expectation that Serbian parliament will adopt the budget by the end of June.
Djelic said that the budget deficit is equal from 1% to 1.5% of the GDP, and that tax on purchase of the first house will be abolished, and the 5% tax on buying a second house will be cut by half.
Djelic said that the VAT on IT equipment will be reduced to 8%, and adequate measures will be taken regarding employment.
He reiterated that no one in Serbia will accept independence for Kosovo-Metohija in exchange for EU membership, and stressed that the two issues are not linked.
