Simovic said that this year’s International Day of Cooperatives is being marked under the slogan “Cooperatives for Fair Globalisation: Creating Opportunities for All” and she stressed that cooperatives can have an amortising role in this process, since they do not seek to maximise profits but rather have a strong social component.
She expressed the hope that cooperatives in Serbia, with their 100-year tradition, will recover and become a significant factor in economic development and amortise social tensions in the transition process, sparking the development of agriculture, entrepreneurship, environmental protection, housing construction, and small and medium sized business in the country.
The Ministry of Economy is writing a bill on cooperatives, said Simovic, in order to improve the environment for setting up cooperatives in Serbia, regardless of their field of activity, according to a statement form the ministry.
