Adoption of law on sports priority of Ministry of Youth and Sports

Belgrade, 30 May 2007

Serbian Minister of Youth and Sports Snezana Samardzic-Markovic stressed today at a meeting with representatives of various sports federations in Serbia that priorities of the Ministry include adoption of law on sports, as well as the strategy for development of sports.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Samardzic-Markovic said on the occasion that this will be the first law which the Ministry will propose since it is in the interest of the Serbian government, sportspeople and the entire sphere of sports that this area is precisely regulated by law in the best manner possible.

The Minister stressed that sports act as a magnet for positive energy and we should continue to build a positive image of Serbia on this basis, and the Ministry will make all possible efforts to convert all good ideas and plans into institutional measures.

Representatives of sports federations expressed conviction that the new minister and her staff will contribute to development of sports in Serbia, improve conditions and advance existing cooperation with sports federations.

The meeting was also attended by Serbian State Secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Vlajko Senic and assistant ministers Aleksandar Sostar and Slavisa Zlatanovic.
