Kostunica stressed that the newly-formed government’s programme is based on five key programme principles on which all parties that comprise the government have agreed.
The Prime Minister said that these principles refer to the state policy towards Kosovo-Metohija, EU integration, cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, social and economic policies and fight against organised crime and corruption.
Kostunica stressed that when it comes to Kosovo-Metohija’s future status, Serbia is advocating a solution based on the respect of the UN Charter which guarantees the preservation of sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states.
This solution lies in supervised autonomy for Kosovo-Metohija within Serbia’s borders, said Kostunica and stressed that such a solution is a just and compromise one and will contribute to the preservation of stability in the region, which is very important.
EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn extended best wishes on the formation of the new government and its devotion to the EU integration process.
He said that talks on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement should soon resume and added that the agreement may be signed within several months.
