Shoigu said at the meeting that Russia, President Vladimir Putin and the Russian leadership share Belgrade’s stand on the Kosovo-Metohija status issue.
He stressed that Moscow maintains its position, which was confirmed once again when Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Belgrade recently.
Kostunica expressed gratitude to Russia and President Putin for the consistent and principled support regarding all matters relating to the issue of Kosovo-Metohija and the firm stand that international law and the UN Charter must be respected. He also stressed that this support is extremely important for Serbia.
It was jointly stated that economic relations between the two countries are excellent, which is confirmed by the increasing presence of Serbian companies in Russia, and Russian firms in Serbia, and willingness was expressed for further advancement of trade and economic relations.
Kostunica and Shoigu said that among a number of projects, particularly important is the memorandum on the construction of a gas pipeline through Serbia.
It was stressed that one proof of good relations is also the agreement signed today on regulation of the clearing debt of the former USSR towards Serbia, as well as the protocol on harmonising the list of goods and services which are being delivered for settling Russia’s debt to Serbia.
Satisfaction was expressed in the talks concerning the goods exchange between Serbia and Russia, which is worth more than $2 billion.
